What are Adjustable Beds?

Adjustable beds are frequently seen and used in hospitals. They have been proven to have several medical benefits and can make home medical care much easier. Their popularity in private settings began in the 1960's and has since grown tremendously. They have been featured in many movies and TV shows and other areas of pop culture. Currently there are several different models and manufacturers of adjustable beds available on the market today.

Modern adjustable beds utilize electric motors to manipulate the head and foot sections of the bed. Most utilize an attached remote to control the bed, but some beds utilize wireless remotes instead. A wireless remote is great if you are a care giver because you can adjust the bed easily and can also control when the bed can be used. A wired remote on the other hand is attached directly to the bed. This is nice because you never have to worry about the remote being lost or inaccessible. Most beds that offer a wireless remote can be configured with an attached remote instead.

There are many accepted health benefits that can be gained from using an adjustable bed. Adjustable beds can help to reduce swelling, improve circulation, and lessen back and neck pain. They are also great at controlling acid reflux and reducing heartburn. This is because when you lay down it is easier for acid to pass from the stomach through the throat. During the day, while standing or sitting, gravity actually helps to fight acid reflux and heartburn. As soon as you lay down you typically loose this advantage. An adjustable bed helps because it is possible to sleep with your upper body in a slightly elevated position. This helps to reduce acid reflux and heartburn by returning the advantage of gravity to your corner.

While there are many different medical reasons for purchasing an adjustable bed, it has become increasingly common for people to purchase these devices for comfort reasons rather than out of medical necessity. This is because they make it much more comfortable to read and watch TV in bed. Some models feature special heat and massage, which can be a great way to relieve stress. King sized adjustable beds offer a very unique service because they are in essence two twin beds that can operate independently of one another. This is great if you share a bed because it is possible to have two completely different sleeping positions, or to use the beds in unison as one bed. It is possible, for instance, to watch TV while your partner is sleeping with a king bed. Smaller beds such as queens and doubles are only one piece and can not be controlled in the same manner.

There are many devices in hospitals that can be of benefit in residential settings, but the most common and perhaps convenient is the adjustable bed. When you make the switch from normal bed to adjustable bed you will be pleasantly surprised and will never want to go back.
